Leadership on the Back of a Chick-Fil-A Receipt

Random thoughts about leadership that hit me while munching on some delicious Chick-Fil-A nuggets and waffle fries.  I used my receipt to record these thoughts and expanded upon them briefly as I wrote this post.  Love to hear what you think.

- The responsibility to lead people without putting them into boxes is huge.  Each one must be respected and dealt with as individuals.  Not everyone responds to the same style of leadership.

- Being fair means giving people what they need at the time to be the people God wants them to be and do what God calls them to do.  Each person has different needs at different times.

- Some situations require a leader to ask one of those they lead to step away from the mission for a time to take care of themselves.  You have to look after people if you want to accomplish the mission.  Sometimes that will look like the mission is less important.  This isn’t true.  The importance of the mission requires we treat people as people and work with them as individuals rather than cogs in some great machine.

- Sometimes we can do the right thing the wrong way – i.e. King David moving the Ark of the Covenant.  David’s heart was right and moving the Ark was the right thing to do.  But David tried to move the Ark the wrong way and it got someone killed.  Their death was not good or necessary.  Our heart can be in the right place, but we can still do the right thing the wrong way with disastrous consequences.
