Great Commission Metrics

Looking at Matthew 28:16-20

16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20

The Great Commission talks about the four measurements of making reproducing disciples.  If you do not follow all the steps, then you make disciples that do not multiply, if they are disciples at all.

Discipleship Metrics

  1. We must go.
  2. We must make disciples.  If we do not make disciples, then our going was useless.
  3. We must baptize.  If we make disciples but do not baptize them into community, then we didn’t complete the task.
  4. We must teach them to obey all the commands of Christ.  If we do not teach disciples to obey all the commands of Christ, then we’ve failed.
These metrics were taken from Discovering Church Planting – Discovery Bible Studies and David Watson.
